With 2024's International Women's Day approaching, The Brand Bar sat down with Hayley Batson of Medicine of Cosmetics to discuss her business journey as a woman, and those who inspire her the most.
International Women's Day with Hayley Batson
Medicine of Cosmetics (MOC) is located in Adelaide, South Australia and provides wellness and anti-ageing solutions for all clients by providing comprehensive quality cosmetic services in an efficient and caring environment.
Hayley has grown her business to include four metro locations and partnerships with over 30 mobile clinics partners Australia-wide, offering a combined total of over 30 years' experience amongst her growing team of professionals. As well as amassing over 30,000 followers across her social networks, MOC currently attracts over 20,000 hits every month.
Hayley is a tremendous leader in the cosmetics industry who we are privileged to work with, Read below to find out what has made her the woman she is today!
Tell us about yourself and your business Medicine of Cosmetics:
"I am a mother of six children, run a busy house and a busy business. My biz is cosmetic injectables. We have four clinics, as well as a mobile division whereby nurses travel around Australia performing aesthetic treatments. We have 21 dynamic staff, most of us working mums and our culture is based on women supporting each other."
How did it start and where are you now?
"It started 14 years ago working for a cosmetic doctor, when by chance I landed in the right place at the right time. All these years later trail blazing here we are still going strong, motivated on making our clients feel good in their own skin."
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
"Being a doctor and driving a Porsche 911 haha… I almost nailed it!"
Is there a particular female figure that inspires you?
"I would have to say my daughter Hunter - who is 23 - and overcame a near death experience. She rose from the pits of hell into a strong, courageous, intentional young lady, never allowing her tragic accident to claim her life body or mind. Determined to walk again, she is my inspiration." Define a great leader—what are three traits you think great leaders possess?
"I would have to say real and raw, honest with sincere intentions and leading by example. If you pave the way for success others will follow suit under your direction."
What does gender equality mean to you?
"Recognition that anything men can do we do better.. Haha kidding, kind of.. I believe that it means allowing both genders equal opportunities in life, in career and within all areas of the work force. I love inspiring my girls to reach for the stars with no limitations. Limiting belief systems are not a thing for my girls."
What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you?
"The way you treat your patients will stay with them forever. I love this because this is the ethos of my company now."
Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to women considering starting their own business?
"It's a sh*t show of highs and lows, keep your sights set on the bigger picture even on the hard days. map out that business plan with the end in mind-that is key. Some days you will kill it other days your sinking and chanting just keep swimming. The rollercoaster is real its a bumpy ride but its great when you reach the top and can enjoy the view."
What main change would you like to see for young girls in the next generation?
"Please please love yourself, be happy in your own skin, know your worth and own that like a rock star. Feel with your heart and gut and trust that instinct over everything else… it will never let you down and will pave the way for an intentional future."
